I think we can all agree that the older we get the more we realize just how much our mothers had to put up with while raising us. From chauffeuring us to tennis lessons and dental appointments to bearing with our adolescent angst and taking care of us when sick, it seems like there’s nothing our moms weren’t willing to do for us.

For many, our moms remain our number one fan, and our relationship with them will forever be one of the strongest bonds we have. Yet, as influential as mothers are in our lives, how often do we stop and actually let them know what they mean to us? Chances are, not enough.

Ubud was founded by a seeker; a Javanese monk named Rsi Markendya who discovered  the profound spirituality he was looking for and never left. Since then, thousands of people have come seeking something of their own in Ubud; this town on the tiny Indonesian island of Bali has lured painters and dancers, filmmakers and craftsmen, shamans and preachers.

Nestled among rice paddies and steep ravines in the foothills of the Gianyar regency, it is a place of the perpetual hiatus, a view shared by countless artisans. A true cradle of inspiration, Ubud allows its visitors to immerse themselves deep within its commonly perceived zeitgeist; inspiring, creative, and serene.

This shredded chicken slaw is the perfect weeknight dinner that tastes even better the next day for lunch.

Why we love it: It’s quick, low maintenance and full of protein, fat and fiber. The shredded cabbage will last in the fridge because the salt will pull the excess water out, leaving it crunchy rather than soggy as it marinades with the dressing. Make it ahead of time on a Sunday night and leave yourself leftovers for the week.

Nothing fires us up more than watching other women conquer obstacles and chase their dreams. Which is why we’ve completely fallen in love with Carly Fleischmann, a 21-year-old journalist from Canada who, even though she has autism and is unable to speak using her mouth, communicates via keyboard and just scored a pretty  big interview for her first time on camera.

Watch in full below and tell us you don’t agree: Can’t we please see more women like Carly on our screens? We absolutely love this.

With three degrees under her belt from Pomona College, Harvard and Stanford, calling Jane Chen an achiever is an understatement. Her incredible drive and work ethic, combined with her heart for social change and innovation resulted in her creation of the Embrace Infant Warmer.

After seeing a need for a more affordable and accessible way to save the lives of millions of premature babies without the use of an incubator, Jane sprung into action with her team of classmates from Stanford. Together under Jane’s leadership, they’ve built Embrace Innovations and Little Lotus to continue their mission to save these babies and families.

Wanderlust for me is year-round, but there is something about the approaching summer that encourages many to finalize their travel plans and take off for a week. While generally the quickest and easiest route to a destination is via plane, there is a certain art and finesse to the road trip that can’t be beat.

So, what does one do to prepare to hit the pavement? Here are a few necessities to make the trip go smoothly.

Writing is a lot like like gardening. When we’re willing to get our hands dirty, the blank page becomes a space to cultivate and sustain life — a little plot for growing seeds that, when exposed to just the right slant of sunlight, blossom into nourishing fruit. But as any gardener would know, there’s an art, a cadence to growing green things: A season for uprooting, and another for tilling. Next, a time for waiting while the elements work their magic. Then, finally, the harvest.

The same rhythm rings true in growing ourselves. Thankfully, unlike actual gardening, storytelling requires no green thumb. You don’t even have to identify as a writer to reap the benefits of writing — you just have to want to do the work.

Clearly, we’re wine fans around these parts. There’s just something about a time-honored tradition, being reliant on the rain, the sun and the earth, and condensing years of hard work into one simple glass — all to better eat with, no less — that we can seriously respect.

What else do we respect?  When there’s a woman behind it all.

Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate and honor the women in our lives – whether mother, aunt, grandmother, or older friend – who have served to shepherd us through the ups and downs as a mentor, guide, and loving shoulder to cry on. What better way to show your appreciation on Mother’s Day than by paying it forward and helping to lift up other women and mothers around the world?
