With just a few weeks left until our ship date, we are so excited to release the cover for Darling Issue 16! This cover image radiates all that we’re hoping for in the coming months: Light, joy, warmth, energy and a healthy dose of the unexpected.
Issue 16 dives into something we might have a tendency to shy away from. Complexity. What does it look like to conquer some of those confusing, complicated or frustrating things in life? Can we find a sense of satisfaction apart from complete understanding? And is there beauty in doing so?
To explain why she’s so passionate about this issue, we’re sharing a word from our Editor-in-Chief and Creative Director, Sarah Dubbeldam. Watch her video below and find out how to get your hands on one of the first copies!
We have big news over here at Darling!
Our Editor in Chief, Sarah Dubbeldam, and her husband, Steve, are having a baby! They originally planned on letting the doctor reveal the gender at their 20-week appointment, but then they found these fun balloons by Knot & Bow to make it a surprise … and we’re sharing the video with you, below!
We’re so honored and excited to have been featured by HLN’s Robin Meade on Morning Express! Their team visited our Los Angeles office to talk with our Editor-in-Chief and Creative Director, Sarah Dubbeldam on Darling’s mission, purpose, and cultural impact. There are times in life when things seem to align just right and something beautiful happens. This is how we feel about our latest issue — it’s one of our absolute favorites and we can’t wait to get it in your hands!
We’ve been fired up at Darling lately about the amount of women rising up in the world to create real change, which reflects the theme of this issue: Fierceness. Spring is the exact time of year to truly wake up, to realize our power, to be assertive, to let the sails go full force. In these pages you’ll find inspiring interviews, bright and bold photography (our cover and cover story was shot in Milan, Italy!) and deep essays that will really challenge your status quo.
Excerpt from Editor-in-Chief, Sarah Dubbeldam’s, Letter from the Editor:
There are too many things in the world that need the touch of women — those that only our psyche can solve, that only her touch can heal, that only her intuition can decipher … may we open our eyes wider, not letting ourselves nod off to sleep, because honestly, we all must keep one another awake to the full if we are going to really leave impressions in the ground where we’ve walked.
Also, you’ll notice a new change in this issue—advertisements! Don’t freak out, we aren’t becoming a glossy mag [smile]. This was a congruent choice with the message of being fierce. Darling has a lot of work to do in this world, and in order to grow, to spread our message more, to do more good, we’ve realized we need to partner with other brands. We promise, they will always be pretty and things you’ll like, because we like them!

If you’ve ever wondered what it was like here at the Darling Magazine headquarters, we’re giving you a sneak peek into our world! But first, we have to admit, it wasn’t always as beautiful and striking as it is now.
Being a start-up company, we have slowly been trying to transform this place over the years into a more appealing work environment, but it inevitably kept falling off of our list of priorities. Fortunately, with the help of interior designer Aubree Holmes and our friends over at Cisco Brothers Furniture – we finally got to give our offices a little bit of a face lift! And boy, did we need it.

On Tuesday, December 8th, Darling partnered with Women & Whiskies to throw a holiday bash in San Francisco. It was a magical evening filled with lots of holiday cheer and of course, whiskey. Considering that Women & Whiskies is all about empowering women with knowledge to enable them to be more comfortable tasting, talking about, and buying whiskey, this partnership was a no brainer, and the cocktails did not disappoint.
Ever wonder what a day at the Darling office looks like? With the printing and release of our fourteenth issue, kicking off exciting fall events, and even welcoming a new (tiny) team member to the bunch, our days of late have been busy but brimming with newness, creativity and collaboration.
And while smartphones are great, if you’re anything like us you sometimes want certain memories to carry a bit more weight beyond the typical Instagram shout-out. That’s why we teamed up with Olympus to do just that.
Our interns are an integral part of all that we do at Darling. From showing up early and setting up photo shoots, to staying here late and shipping hundreds of magazines, we couldn’t be more appreciative of these young women who give their time, energy and resources to putting the #DarlingMovement into action.
We don’t want to keep them a secret, either, so below we’re sharing the faces, stories, and a few interesting facts about the ladies behind Darling Issue No. 14.
We’re so excited to give you a sneak-peek inside of our latest issue, Darling No. 14!
It’s that time of year where “what really matters” often gets talked about, but rarely pursued. With winter upon us, we’re now seeking to refocus the lens on our character, taking the time to really think about what it is we stand for and making certain virtues (maybe those long forgotten) popular once again. In these pages you’ll find themes of leaving a legacy, prudence in decision-making, becoming a woman of commitment and finding beauty with age.
From Sarah Dubbeldam’s Letter from the Editor:
“However, what’s most important is becoming a pillar, a woman who is the same even when nobody is watching — one that holds an inner compass that guides them in every decision — who desires more than anything to be good, true and right.“

The end of summer and beginning of fall have been packed full for the Darling calendar. From dinners, to a brunch series, to our fall issue launch party, we’ve kept ourselves busy with events.

Whether we like it or not, our jobs and the people we work with have a way of shaping who we are. Over the past year and a half of working for Darling Magazine I have grown and learned a lot, but the following are three key lessons that stand out to me the most:
Issue No. 13 is finally here and just as with every issue, this one might be our favorite yet.
For fall we’re focusing on all that lies beneath us, the beauty in the unexpected, vulnerability as the key to life, choosing the hardest (yet best) paths, being fearless in relationships and empowering others around you. It’s about embracing the fact that this life is a big question mark, but that it’s worth the fight; living authentically is always in style and the hard questions are definitely the ones to ask.

From Darling reader Hannah Rose Brasseur:
INTRODUCING ISSUE 12!
So much is happening with the Darling Movement that we were inspired to center this new issue around the idea of a “spark.” What we mean is, there are times to sit and think, to hold back, to wait, and there are times to green light, to jump, to turn our backs on fear and just go for it.
That’s the spirit of this issue.
You’ll read about anything from embracing our uniqueness in a sea of humanity to finding a purpose, to taking action even if it feels too late, to overcoming hard times and coming to a place of life again and seeking a deeper meaning in even the simplest of acts.
This issue’s articles are timely and sincere and have been sparking conversation among our staff and at our Darling Dinners. Our cover was shot in South Africa, and there is something about its warm, deep, amber colored light that we just had to carry throughout the whole issue. All in all, you need these words and beautiful visuals in your life. They hold the love and motivation you want and crave during this summer season of adventure.
