Personality is design in spirit form. Design is our personality in tangible form. The way we present our personality to the world creates a certain predictability that makes people say, “oh that is so you.”
Style is set apart from time. It permeates not only the clothes that you wear, but the expression of culture through architecture and interior design. It is demonstrated through color, texture, shape, and line being applied to anything that we as a society aesthetically appreciate. We believe in educating on style; its history, and the interesting ways it manifests in culture. We will be constantly studying the ways that social and political issues shaped eras of fashion, enabling us to better understand our current state of being, which will help you blend vintage and modern into your wardrobe.
Within Darling it’s all about dressing for your body, not like the bodies in magazines or on the runway. We can constantly learn more about our unique body and how to fashion it well. We need to go with our “gut” even if it goes against the tide, feeling free to wear our favorite colors, shapes, and silhouettes. Go with your ideals of what is “stylish,” your own personal beauty.
We’ve all had that friend who shows up wearing the “coolest” possible combo of fabrics, prints, colors, and shapes you’ve ever seen. And it seems effortless. Darling wants to help every woman come into her own style that she feels confident rocking on the streets. We place more value on personal style versus trends, and believe in shopping on a budget in order to be able to afford to actually go out in the outfit we bought! We want to stay away from buying things that cost more than our rent, and the guilty feelings associated with living outside of our means in order to “keep up.”
Style doesn’t only live in the closet, it moves into the home and city. Interior design can literally transform a room, along with the feelings you get when you walk into it. With the changing seasons and your changing moods, you can create a space that is your own, an expression of you. Your home can have life–not a boring, stagnant place–you can make it a constant project of changing colors, fabrics, textures, and pieces, a peaceful place you love to be in and invite others into.
A woman who claims and embraces her own style is way more interesting than someone who hides behind cultural expectations out of fear of being known. Let’s come fully into who we are stylistically, a walking work of art. Let’s embrace style – being stylists in our own closets, designers in our homes, and tourists in our own city appreciating design all around us.
