City Guide: Philadelphia

Philly

Free People’s BLDG 25 Blog is manned by Julie (editorial specialist) and Jana (blog writer). Together they travel, make, style,  photograph and produce the inspiring destination that is Free People’s BLDG 25 Blog. When they’re not off exploring something new, the two make their permanent home in the eastern city of Philadelphia. While the city keeps surprising them every day, they’ve fallen in love with its charm and grit. The people and places that they’ve found have touched a place in their hearts and they are so excited to share them with Darling.

For the next trip with your girlfriends, why not give Philadelphia a try? Here, the Free People bloggers offer up their idea for the perfect girls weekend in Philly.

Stay
We’re big fans of Airbnb, and we use it each time we travel to a new city for the blog. It’s especially fun when you’re with friends because you can get a great deal on lodging and have the option to simply hang out when you don’t feel like being go-go-go. If you want to stay in a trendier, more up-and-coming area with bars and restaurants, try finding a pad in Fishtown or Northern Liberties. If you want something that has a neighborhood vibe, search in Fairmount, and if you’d rather be in the center of it all, in an old beautiful Philadelphia home, try staying near Rittenhouse Square.

Friday Night
On the 1st Friday of every month, galleries and boutiques stay open late, so you can enjoy all of the art exhibits and shops lining 2nd Street in Old City. Ritual Ritual is a must see, and Art In the Age will most likely be serving up the best drinks (with their in-house spirits). Follow up the fun with dinner at Wedge + Fig, the Standard Tap, or Jerry’s Bar!

Saturday
Wake up early and jump into Philly’s thriving yoga scene. Maha Yoga offers up sweaty classes that will fulfill not only body, but mind and soul too. Follow it up with brunch at Sabrina’s Café and head on over to The Parlour for some personalized organic facials. Come evening time, get ready for dinner in Chinatown at Dim Sum Garden followed by a show at Underground Arts. If you’re up for it, check out our local speakeasy, Hop Sing Laundromat, for drinks after the show!

Sunday
Grab a coffee and breakfast sandwich at RyBread and then head down to the Philadelphia Museum of Art for pay-what-you-wish-first-Sunday! If you’re still ready for more adventures after perusing the galleries, why not get in some vintage shopping? Head on over to South Street/Queens Village and check out Retrospect, Philly Aids Thrift, Moon & Arrow, and Repo Records. Grab a bite to eat at Red Hook Coffee & Tea before you leave the city — we promise you won’t regret anything you order here.

Building 25 is where the magic of Free People happens. In the Navy Yard on the edge of Philadelphia a cluster of renovated warehouses sit alongside the Delaware River, and in one of them a group of young, fashionable, creative people – mostly women – delve into the details of living the life of the Free People girl. The BLDG 25 Blog is a way for us to open the doors of our home to let you peek inside, come in, and hang out for a while. We wanted to create a place that merged our worlds and offered insight into the illuminating culture of Free People. We hope that this blog inspires you to embark on creative, fun, enlightened, and fashionable adventures each day, and that you return again to share your experiences with us.
