Summer Afternoon

Summer Afternoon | Darling Magazine

There is a point in the afternoon
When you can almost feel the pull
Of the earth shifting, spinning
Throwing your emotions to the bottom of your heart
And your memory to the recesses of your mind
The sun seems to arch its back and then, finally,
Arduously, hurl itself back into work
Settling us again somewhere near normal
But a bit disoriented, having dredged
Our sensibilities so soon after lunch
Without even any coffee or nap.
